Which Fujifilm lenses take the XF1.4X TC WR and XF2X TC WR

Fujifilm's charts list the same seven lenses for the XF1.4X TC WR and XF2X TC WR, its two separately sold X-mount teleconverters. Check whether your lens is one of them, which firmware to update and in what order (including an XF500mm autofocus fix), and what each converter turns the lens into.

The short answer

The XF1.4X TC WR and XF2X TC WR fit the same seven lenses: the XF80mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro, XF400mmF4.5 R LM OIS WR, XF500mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR, XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR, XF70-300mmF4-5.6 R LM OIS WR, XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR and XF150-600mmF5.6-8 R LM OIS WR. Every other XF lens and every XC lens on Fujifilm's two charts is marked "Not compatible." If your lens is not one of the seven, rule both converters out.

Lens firmware sets a higher minimum on two of the seven. The XF50-140mm needs Ver.1.10 or later for the XF1.4X TC WR and Ver.1.20 or later for the XF2X TC WR. The XF100-400mm needs Ver.1.10 or later for the 2x, and nothing extra for the 1.4x. The other five are charted at Ver.1.00 or later for both.

One of those five still needs attention. Fujifilm's Ver.1.01 for the XF500mm fixed autofocus that was not stable with a converter mounted when the focus area was not centered. Its note names the XF1.4X TC WR, the XF2X TC WR and the XF1.4X TC F2 WR. If your XF500mm is still on Ver.1.00, update it before you use either converter; the latest version is Ver.1.02. Whatever you update, Fujifilm's rule is camera body first, then lens.

Minimums come from Fujifilm's two compatibility charts, which add a note to the XF50-140mm and XF100-400mm: update the camera body first. Latest versions are as Fujifilm listed them in September 2026, and every version in the last column meets both minimums.

Updating in Fujifilm's order

  1. Mount the lens, insert a memory card, and read the firmware versions of both the body and the lens. The table below shows how each body displays them.
  2. Compare the body's version with the latest one on Fujifilm's camera firmware list. If the body is behind, update it first. Fujifilm's charts, converter manuals and lens firmware notes all put the camera body before the lens.
  3. Then compare the lens with the firmware table above. With the body up to date, a lens at or above its minimum meets Fujifilm's chart for that converter. Update an XF500mm still on Ver.1.00 anyway, for the autofocus fix. Fujifilm also asks owners to run the latest firmware on camera and lens for full performance.
  4. To update a lens, Fujifilm's steps are: copy that lens's file (named XFUP00##.DAT) from its firmware page onto a formatted card, turn the camera on while holding DISP/BACK, press MENU/OK and select LENS. BODY is selected by default. Recent manuals, such as the X-T5's and X-M5's, also list a setup-menu route: USER SETTING > FIRMWARE UPDATE.
  5. Use a fully charged battery, and do not switch the camera off or touch its controls until the update finishes. Afterward, check the version again, and reformat the card before you shoot with it.
Either way, mount the lens first; the manuals say to mount a lens to see or update its firmware. For a body not listed here, look up the firmware section of that camera's owner's manual. Fujifilm's camera manuals page lists them all.

You do not have to step through each version. Fujifilm says you can go from an old version straight to the latest, for bodies and lenses alike. Fujifilm's lens firmware list has no entry for either converter, so the updates involved are the camera's and the lens's.

Fujifilm's firmware notes list a body update that added XF1.4X TC WR compatibility for seven early bodies: the X-T1 (Ver.4.10), X-E2 (Ver.3.10), X-E1 (Ver.2.50), X-T10 (Ver.1.10), X-A2 (Ver.1.10), and the X-A1 and X-M1 (both Ver.1.30). Those notes say the update lets the converter work fully with the XF50-140mm and show aperture and focal length correctly. Both charts now carry the note "Compatible with all camera bodies," and a body on its latest firmware already includes those changes.

What each converter does to the lens

The XF1.4X TC WR multiplies focal length by 1.4 and costs one stop. It has 7 elements in 3 groups, weighs about 130 g (4.5 oz) without caps and measures 15 mm between its mount flanges. The XF2X TC WR doubles focal length and costs two stops, with 9 elements in 5 groups, about 170 g (5.9 oz) and 30.2 mm. Fujifilm describes both as weather and dust resistant, and able to operate as low as -10°C (which works out to 14°F), when used with a weather-resistant body and lens.

The XF50-140mm and XF100-400mm figures and the XF400mm's focal lengths are Fujifilm's own. The rest work out from the converter specifications: focal length and maximum magnification times 1.4 or 2, and one or two stops slower.

The camera displays and records the corrected f-number and focal length. The numbers on the lens's aperture ring stop matching the real f-number; the manuals say the camera shows the correct one.

Magnification scales too. Both converters keep the lens's focus range about the same and multiply its maximum magnification. On the XF80mm Macro, rated at 1x, that works out to 1.4x with the 1.4x converter and 2x with the 2x. Both manuals warn against adding a macro extension tube to a converter.

On autofocus, Fujifilm's XF1.4X TC WR page says AF speed with the converter mounted is equivalent to the lens by itself. For the 2x, Fujifilm says phase-detection AF is still available with the XF50-140mm and contrast-detection AF with the XF100-400mm. The X-T2 and X-Pro2 later received firmware that extended phase-detection AF from F8 to F11, and Fujifilm named the XF100-400mm with the 2x as its example. That is one more reason to update an older body first. Fujifilm's 2x page does not say how autofocus behaves past f/11. Of the seven lenses, only the XF150-600mm with the 2x goes past it, which works out to f/16 at the long end.

In 35mm-format terms, Fujifilm gives 853mm for the XF100-400mm or XF400mm with the 1.4x and 1,219mm for either with the 2x. With a converter, it puts the XF70-300mm's longest equivalent at 914mm and the XF150-600mm's at 1828mm. For how equivalents are worked out, see translating a lens spec between sensor formats.

Traps

  • The XF200mmF2 R LM OIS WR is marked not compatible with both converters. It comes with its own converter, the XF1.4X TC F2 WR. That name differs from XF1.4X TC WR only by "F2", so read listings closely.
  • Neither chart covers the XF1.4X TC F2 WR. Fujifilm's lens firmware notes add support for it on the XF80mm Macro (Ver.1.10), XF50-140mm (Ver.1.30) and XF100-400mm (Ver.1.20), and the X-T1, X-T2 and X-H1 needed body updates for it too. The XF500mm's Ver.1.01 fix also names it. Fujifilm's product pages for the XF70-300mm and XF150-600mm, and its XF400mm announcement, name only the XF1.4X TC WR and XF2X TC WR.
  • Some current lenses are not on either chart at all, including the XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR II, XF16-50mmF2.8-4.8 R LM WR and XF56mmF1.2 R WR. Fujifilm's manuals say the converters attach only to particular lenses, and the charts give a compatible firmware version for only the seven above.
  • The XF400mmF4.5 R LM OIS WR was announced on September 4, 2026, so a list made before then will not include it.
  • A telephoto range alone is not a fit. The XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS is on both charts, marked "Not compatible."
  • Do not test-fit. The manuals warn that attaching a converter to an incompatible lens may damage the lens or camera, or degrade performance.
  • Do not stack a macro extension tube with a converter. Both manuals warn that it may cause a malfunction.
  • Attach in order, with the camera off: converter onto the lens first, then the pair onto the body. Take care not to press the lens removal lever on the converter.
  • Each converter comes with front and rear caps and a pouch. If the rear cap goes missing, both charts list the RLCP-001 lens rear cap as compatible.
  • The charts list Fujifilm's own XF and XC lenses only; an adapted Canon EF or Nikon F lens is not among them. See adapting Canon EF and Nikon F lenses.

Before you buy, check three things

  1. The exact lens name, from the box or the lens itself, against the seven above.
  2. The firmware: the body's version against Fujifilm's camera firmware list, and the lens version if you own the XF50-140mm, XF100-400mm or XF500mm.
  3. The f-number you will end up with. With the 2x, the XF150-600mm's long end works out to 1200mm at f/16, two stops slower than the lens alone, and Fujifilm's 2x page does not say how autofocus behaves there.

What this page does not tell you

  • Lenses and firmware released after September 2026 aren't covered. Both charts were last updated September 4, 2026, and the firmware table shows the latest versions Fujifilm listed that month. Check the charts and firmware lists for anything newer.
  • Fujifilm publishes no converter figures for the XF80mm, XF500mm, XF70-300mm or XF150-600mm, and no f-numbers for the XF400mm. Those entries in the results table are worked out from the converter specifications. The camera shows the corrected f-number and focal length.
  • Fujifilm gives no body firmware minimum for the XF2X TC WR. Its charts say only that both converters work with all camera bodies, so update your body to its latest firmware first.
  • Fujifilm doesn't say how autofocus behaves past f/11. That matters for the XF150-600mm's long end with the 2x. Don't count on autofocus there until Fujifilm says how it works.
  • Fujifilm says nothing either way about whether the XF1.4X TC F2 WR works on the XF70-300mm, XF150-600mm or XF400mm. Its pages for those lenses name only the XF1.4X TC WR and XF2X TC WR.
  • The version-check steps cover only the bodies in the table. For any other body, see the firmware section of that camera's owner's manual.
