Checking a Fujifilm Flash Against Your Exact X or GFX Body
Fujifilm publishes a body list for each of its six shoe-mount flashes and for its EF-W1 wireless commander, and those lists don't always match its own camera pages and manuals. This page sets out what each list says for every X and GFX body on it, and where to look when yours is missing.
The short answer
Fujifilm answers this question in four places: a compatibility page for most cameras, a chart for each of its six shoe-mount flashes (EF-60, EF-X500, EF-42, EF-20, EF-X20 and EF-X8) and for its EF-W1 wireless commander, the Compatibility list on each unit's product page, and the accessories list in each camera's manual. None of them marks any pairing as incompatible. A body is either named or missing.
Start with your camera's compatibility page, which shows Fujifilm's flash listings for that body in one table. Then check the unit's chart. If the pair is on neither, check the unit's product page and your camera's manual. Each of the four lists misses pairs that another one names. The EF-42, EF-20 and EF-X20 charts leave out the X-T20, X-T30 III, X-M5 and GFX100RF, although those cameras' pages and manuals list all three flashes. The camera pages for the X-A7, X-A5, X-A3, X-A2 and X-T100 leave out flashes that those cameras' manuals list.
If none of the four names your exact body with the unit, no Fujifilm list confirms the pair. The EF-X500's product page is the one partial exception: it says some functions also work on other X Series cameras with a hot shoe, but not which ones. That note doesn't tell you whether TTL, high-speed sync or wireless control will work.
What each list says, body by body
Bodies that share the same pattern sit in one row. "Listed" means the body is on that unit's chart. "Not listed" means it is absent from the chart, not that Fujifilm calls the pair incompatible. A mark means another Fujifilm list names the pair anyway.

Where the lists catch people
- Suffixes matter. The X-T30 II and X-T30 III are on the EF-60, EF-X500 and EF-W1 charts. The original X-T30 is on none of those three, and it isn't in Fujifilm's camera compatibility index. Its manual lists the EF-X500, and its Ver.1.30 firmware notes tell owners to update when an EF-X500 commands an EF-60 as a remote. No Fujifilm list names the EF-60 or EF-W1 for use on the X-T30 itself.
- The X-T200 is on the EF-X500 chart but not the EF-60 or EF-W1 charts, and neither its camera page nor its manual lists either of those two.
- The X100 line splits by generation. The X100VI and X100F are on every chart except the EF-X8's. The X100V is on the EF-X20 chart but not the EF-42 or EF-20 charts, and its camera page and manual leave those two out as well. The X100T and earlier appear only on the EF-42, EF-20 and EF-X20 charts.
- The EF-X8 has the shortest chart: 14 bodies, all X Series, with no GFX, X-S, X-T50, X-T30 or X100 model among them. Fujifilm's manuals describe it as drawing power from the camera. Fujifilm's X-T1 firmware notes call it the flash bundled with that camera, so if you have a spare one from an older kit, check the chart before moving it to a newer body.
- Five camera pages list fewer flashes than the camera's own manual. The X-A5 and X-A3 pages list only the EF-42 and EF-20, and both manuals add the EF-X500 and EF-X20. The X-A2 page lists the EF-42 and EF-20, and its manual adds the EF-X20. The X-T100 page lists the EF-42, EF-20 and EF-X20, and its manual adds the EF-X500. The X-A7, which is on no chart, has a page that lists only the EF-42, while its manual lists the EF-X500, EF-42, EF-X20 and EF-20.
- The EF-X20 chart leaves out the X-Pro1, X-M1, X-A1 and X-A2, yet each of those cameras' manuals lists the EF-X20 alongside the EF-42 and EF-20. Those four manuals are PDFs on Fujifilm's camera manuals page.
- Manuals and charts disagree the other way too. The X-T4 and X-T20 manuals don't mention the EF-60 or EF-W1, but both bodies are on those two charts, and both cameras' compatibility pages list both units.
- For a body that no Fujifilm list pairs with the EF-X500, such as the X-T10 or X-E2S, the EF-X500 product page says only that some functions work on other X Series cameras with a hot shoe. It doesn't say which.
What a check mark doesn't tell you
The charts, camera pages and product-page Compatibility lists don't say which functions work with a given body. For TTL, high-speed sync or wireless control, read the flash entries in your camera's manual. The X-T5 manual, for example, says the EF-60 and EF-X500 support manual and TTL flash control and FP (high-speed sync), and that the EF-20 supports TTL only, with no manual flash control. The entries differ by body. The X-T200, X-A7, X-A5 and X-T100 manuals describe the EF-X500 only by guide number, power source and, in two of them, head movement. They don't mention TTL, high-speed sync or wireless control. The X-A3 manual gives the EF-X500 manual and TTL control but doesn't mention high-speed sync or wireless. If you need one of those functions on one of those bodies, don't assume it.

Choosing among the units your body supports
Where your body is on more than one list, the published specifications settle a few choices. They come from the X-T5 manual and Fujifilm's product pages. Before you pick a unit for TTL, high-speed sync or wireless control, check that your own manual's entry for it names that function.
- Off-camera flash without line of sight: the EF-60 has a built-in radio receiver and fires as a remote from the EF-W1 commander or a Nissin Air10s. The EF-X500's wireless mode is optical, as commander or remote. The EF-60 can also work as an optical remote under an EF-X500.
- Fujifilm's charts cover the EF-W1, not the Air10s. Nissin's Air10s compatibility chart names the Fujifilm bodies the Air10s supports and says cameras not listed haven't been tested. Several bodies on the EF-W1 chart aren't on Nissin's list, including the X-S20, X-T50, X-T30 II, X-T30 III, X-E4, X-E5, X-M5, X100V and every GFX model except the GFX 50S and GFX 50R. Check Nissin's chart for your body before choosing the Air10s over the EF-W1.
- Output: the EF-60 carries the highest declared guide number of the range, 60 at ISO 100 in meters. Fujifilm quotes that figure at the 200 mm coverage setting, and the EF-X500's zoom stops at 105 mm, so the two maximums are not measured at the same setting.
- Small units: the EF-X20 and EF-20 share a guide number of 20, but only the EF-X20 offers manual output. The EF-20 is TTL only.
- Batteries: the EF-X500 runs on four AA cells or on the optional EF-BP1 pack, which holds up to eight. Fujifilm says the pack shortens charging time and raises the number of flashes per charge, and the EF-X500 chart lists it as a compatible accessory.
Update the firmware before you judge the flash
Some pairings depend on camera firmware. Fujifilm added EF-X500 support, including multi-flash lighting and high-speed flash sync, to the X-T1 in firmware Ver.5.00 and to the X-Pro2 in Ver.2.00. The EF-60 product page says the camera's firmware must be upgraded before an EF-X500 can control the EF-60. The firmware notes for the X-T1, X-T2, X-T3, X-T4, X-T20, X-T30, X-Pro2, X-Pro3, X-H1, X-E3, X100V, GFX 50S, GFX 50R and GFX100 all say to update the camera to the latest version when an EF-X500 commands an EF-60. The X-T4's Ver.2.12 fixed a fault where an EF-60 or EF-X500 attached at power-on was not recognized or did not fire. The X-T5's Ver.2.10 fixed a sync fault with an attached EF-60 when using the electronic front curtain shutter.
The EF-X500 also has firmware of its own, which you load through the camera. Fujifilm's EF-X500 firmware page lists Ver.1.03 as the latest. In its notes for Ver.1.02, Fujifilm tells X-T1, X-T2 and X-Pro2 owners to update the camera first (X-T1 Ver.5.10, X-T2 Ver.1.20, X-Pro2 Ver.2.10), then the flash. Fujifilm's accessory firmware page lists no other shoe-mount flash. If you are buying a used body or a used EF-X500, compare the installed versions with these pages.
What to check on your own camera
- Write down the exact model name, including any II, III or S suffix.
- Find your camera in Fujifilm's camera compatibility index and look at the Flash table under Accessories on its page. The original X-T30, the X-E2S, the X100T and older bodies such as the X-Pro1 and X100S aren't in the index.
- Open the chart for the unit on Fujifilm's accessory compatibility page and look for the same exact name.
- If the pair is on neither, check the Compatibility list on the unit's product page, then your camera's manual, which Fujifilm's camera manuals page links. In the online manuals the list is under Technical Notes > Accessories from Fujifilm, or under Accessories > Shoe-Mounted Flash Units in older ones such as the X-T10's. Early bodies such as the X-T1, X-Pro1 and X100S have PDF manuals instead. The X100T isn't on that page; its manual is at fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/x100t/.
- Read that manual's entry for the unit to see which functions it names.
- Update the camera to its latest firmware before first use. With an EF-X500, check the flash's own firmware version too.

What this page does not tell you
- Fujifilm's charts, camera pages and product-page lists mark a pairing as compatible without saying which functions work. Camera manuals say more, but some flash entries give only the guide number and power source. If you need TTL, high-speed sync or wireless control, check your manual's entry for that unit.
- When Fujifilm's lists disagree, the † and ‡ marks show which lists name the pair, but the page doesn't settle which list is right. For those pairs, ask Fujifilm support.
- The lists come from Fujifilm's US pages in September 2026. Bodies and flashes released after that aren't covered, so check the live chart and camera page.
- The original X-T30, the X-E2S, the X100T, the X-Pro1, the X100S and other early bodies have no page in Fujifilm's camera compatibility index. For those bodies, check the flash charts, product pages and manuals.
- Third-party flashes aren't covered, except the Nissin Air10s as an EF-60 commander. For the Air10s, check Nissin's chart for the bodies it supports, not Fujifilm's.

- The EF-60 product page lists the same 31 compatible cameras as its chart. Its specification gives a maximum guide number of approx. 60 (ISO 100, m) with coverage set to 200 mm (35 mm format), coverage of 24–200 mm, FP (high-speed sync), TTL and manual control, and 4 AA batteries. It names the EF-W1 and Nissin Air10s as radio commanders and the EF-X500 as an optical master.
- The EF-60 product page says upgrading the camera firmware is required to support the EF-X500 link.
- The EF-60's maximum guide number is quoted at the 200 mm coverage setting, and the EF-X500's zoom range ends at 105 mm, so the two maximums are not measured at the same setting.
- The EF-W1 is a radio commander using NAS (Nissin Air System) that controls the EF-60's TTL, Manual and FP modes; its FP control works with a compatible camera; it runs on 2 AAA batteries; it also works with Nissin flashes that use NAS. Its compatible-camera list matches its chart.
- The EF-42 product page's Compatibility list includes the GFX100RF, X-T30 III, X-T20, X-M5 and X-A7, and does not include the X100V, the original X-T30 or the X-Pro1.
- The EF-20 product page's Compatibility list includes the GFX100RF, X-T30 III, X-T20 and X-M5, and does not include the X-A7 or X100V.
- The EF-X20 product page's Compatibility list includes the GFX100RF, X-T30 III, X-T20, X-M5 and X100V, and no X-A model, X-Pro1 or X-M1. The EF-X20 has a built-in slave mode, runs on two AAA batteries and offers manual output from 1/1 to 1/64.
- The EF-X8 product page's Compatibility list matches its chart: the same 14 X Series bodies.
- The X-T5 manual says the EF-60 supports manual and TTL flash control and FP (high-speed sync), has a guide number of 60/197 (ISO 100, m/ft) and can be a remote under the EF-W1; and that the EF-X500 supports manual and TTL control and FP, has a guide number of 50/164, takes the EF-BP1 pack (up to 8 AA batteries) and can be an optical wireless commander or remote.
- The X-T5 manual gives the EF-42 a guide number of 42/137 with manual and TTL control, the EF-X20 20/65 with manual and TTL control, and the EF-20 20/65 with TTL control only. It says the EF-X8 draws power from the camera and has a guide number of approximately 8/26, and that the EF-W1 is a NAS wireless commander for EF-60 units and other NAS-compliant units.
- Of the six flashes, the EF-60 has the highest declared guide number: 60, against 50 for the EF-X500, 42 for the EF-42, 20 for the EF-X20 and EF-20, and about 8 for the EF-X8.
- The X-T20 manual lists the EF-X500 (four AA or the EF-BP1), EF-42 (four AA), EF-X20 (two AAA) and EF-20 (two AA) as shoe-mounted flash units, and does not mention the EF-60 or EF-W1.
- The X-T30 III manual lists the EF-X500, EF-BP1, EF-60, EF-W1, EF-42, EF-X20 and EF-20, and not the EF-X8.
- The GFX100RF manual lists the EF-X500, EF-BP1, EF-60, EF-W1, EF-42, EF-X20 and EF-20, and not the EF-X8.
- The X-M5 manual lists the EF-X500, EF-BP1, EF-60, EF-W1, EF-X8, EF-42, EF-X20 and EF-20.
- The X-T30 manual, under Technical Notes > Accessories from Fujifilm, lists the EF-X500 (manual and TTL control, FP, optical wireless master or remote), the EF-BP1, EF-42, EF-X20 and EF-20. It does not list the EF-60, EF-W1 or EF-X8.
- Older online manuals such as the X-T10's put the flash list under Accessories > Shoe-Mounted Flash Units; the X-T10 list names the EF-20, EF-42 and EF-X20.
- The X-T200 manual describes the EF-X500 only by guide number (50/164) and power source (four AA or the EF-BP1), and also lists the EF-BP1, EF-42, EF-X20 and EF-20. It does not list the EF-60, EF-W1 or EF-X8.
- The X-A7 manual describes the EF-X500 only by guide number and power source, and also lists the EF-BP1, EF-42, EF-X20 and EF-20.
- The X-A5 manual lists the EF-X500, EF-42, EF-X20 and EF-20. Its EF-X500 entry gives the guide number, power source and head movement, and does not mention TTL, FP or wireless control.
- The X-A3 manual lists the EF-X500, EF-X20, EF-20 and EF-42. Its EF-X500 entry mentions manual and TTL control and auto zoom, but not FP or wireless control.
- The X-T100 manual lists the EF-X500, EF-42, EF-X20 and EF-20. Its EF-X500 entry gives the guide number, power source and head movement, and does not mention TTL, FP or wireless control.
- The X100V manual lists only the EF-X500, the EF-BP1 battery pack and the EF-X20 under shoe-mounted flash units.
- The X-T4 manual lists the EF-X500, EF-BP1, EF-X8, EF-42, EF-X20 and EF-20, and does not mention the EF-60 or EF-W1.
- The X-E2S manual lists the EF-20, EF-42 and EF-X20, and not the EF-X500.
